The commons hub is back, stronger than ever before!
After facing a devastating setback at the beginning of 2024, we are thrilled to announce that the Hub has been fully resurrected and is ready to continue its mission of fostering innovation and collaboration in the crypto commons space.
Starting the Year with Disaster
In early 2024, the commons hub endured severe vandalism that left the entire house – every room, upstairs and down – heavily damaged. What’s more, the perpetrator, who is well known to us, was acting in a severe psychosis and is regretting their actions ever since, which added a deeply tragic emotional element to the physical destruction itself. The whole episode was heart-wrenching, burying our plans and dreams for the Hub under a mountain of rubble and sadness and making the prospect of hosting any guests in 2024 seem an impossible feat.
Community to the Rescue
In face of these overwhelming challenges, the crypto commons community provided the crucial emotional and material support needed to initiate recovery. A fundraiser on Giveth raised thousands from dozens of donors within days and showed us that we’re not alone in this. In the following months, numerous community members volunteered countless hours to clean the Hub and bring it back to life. A special shoutout goes to Scott, who dedicated weeks of his summer to cleaning, repairing, and salvaging what could be saved. Thus drawing on community resources built up over the last years, we jointly managed to prepare the Hub for its most important event of the year – the Crypto Commons Gathering.
CCG24: Return to the Hub
The 4th edition of the Crypto Commons Gathering (CCG24) marked a significant milestone in our recovery. Intended as an intimate and familiar gathering among friends, it brought core members of the crypto commons community back to the Hub and gave us a shared space to process all this turmoil together. The continuation of the Hub’s longest standing event series breathed life back into the space and decidedly reaffirmed the importance of our mission and vision.
A New Chapter Begins!
Since the end of CCG 2024, we have been working tirelessly in the background to get the Hub’s resurrection going. Now, we are thrilled to announce a significant milestone: In January, house ownership will be transferred to Felix and Emil! Additionally, we’ve expanded our team with our first full-time and long-term employee, Daniel, who will manage hospitality and facilities, and Eva, who supports us remotely. On the tech front, we’ve launched a brand-new website, and soon, a customized booking system and crypto payment options will streamline operations for us and our guests.
Our Plans for 2025
As we prepare for the start of next season in April, we’re undertaking substantial renovations, including upgrading the bathrooms, kitchen, and chimney, and dedicating some love to our interiors. By doubling our hosting capacity, we will be able to welcome more visitors and have more event days than ever before. On top of that, we are planning a sweat lodge, climbing wall and our very own video podcast studio, which will empower community-led content creation across the Commons.
A Beacon of Resilience
Over the last years, the commons hub has become a beacon of resilience, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the crypto commons community. We invite you to be part of this exciting new chapter as we continue to nurture a space for innovation, exploration, and connection in the landscape of decentralized technologies and the commons.
Despite all these improvements and overall professionalization, the Hub remains dedicated to being a community space, and we encourage everyone to contribute to its development – spatially as well as conceptually. Your next opportunity to get involved? Join us for our next event Hack the Hub in April 2025!
