Commons Climb

A Rock Climbing Community Gathering

September 26th (Fri), 16:30 - 28th (Sun), 20:00

Join us for a free weekend of alpine fun, forging new friendships, and imagining the commons hub as a unique gathering spot for climbers.

SIGN UP HERE

Whether you're a seasoned multi-pitch enthusiast, a sport climber, or just getting started, join us for Commons Climb—a laid-back weekend of skill-sharing, outdoor adventure, and community building at the commons hub.

This is not a formal course, but a chance to meet fellow climbers, exchange knowledge, and find climbing partners for future adventures. Together, we’ll share tips on local crags, training techniques, safety, and more—with sessions shaped by you. Expect:

  • Rock climbing (sport & multi-pitch)

  • Partner matchmaking (find your next climbing buddy)

  • Skill sharing (bring your expertise!)

  • Swimming in Schwarza (refreshing!)

  • Evening hangouts (campfire, beer, hot tub)

The commons hub—a climber-run space with cozy accommodation—is our home base. Even the cook sends hard!

AREA & ROUTES

The commons hub is located right at the entrance of Höllental, a narrow valley with more than 2000 climbing routes. There are multi-pitch and sport climbing routes for all difficulty levels.

Format note: This gathering follows an unconference model—meaning you shape the weekend! Each morning, we’ll hold a collaborative "Day Mapping" session where attendees pitch ideas, workshops, or propose activities (e.g., "I want to learn trad gear placement," "Let’s go sports climbing at Schattenreich," or "Who’s up for a stretching workshop?"). From there, we’ll match interests with volunteers, assign times/locations/resources, and build the day’s schedule together. Think of it as a climber’s bazaar: bring a question, a project, or expertise to trade, and leave with new knowledge, partners, and experiences. Flexibility and participation are key—so come ready to co-create!

Commons Teams: At our events, we organize attendees into teams to collectively care for the space and each other. The Fire Team manages campfire and hot tub, Kitchen Team cooks, Cleaning Team makes sure the kitchen is kept tidy, the Shepherds facilitate sessions ("Stretching is happening in 5mins - come join at the outdoor gym!"), keep a pulse on group dynamics and are a point of contact for attendees. This collaborative approach not only reduces costs but also fosters ownership and connection—because the event isn’t just for you, it’s by you.

What to bring

  • Climbing gear (ideally marked) including a helmet

  • Cars (we have some, but ideally 1 car per 4-5 persons)

  • If you wanna have alcoholic drinks or fancy snacks, please bring them yourselves - we only provide basic vegetarian meals, and there's no shop in walking distance.

COSTS

This first Commons Climb is free to participate. We charge neither for accommodation in our dorms (rooms of 4 and 6, with a female-only room available) nor for the jointly prepared vegetarian meals.

Think of it as our kick-off advertisement: a chance for you to get to know the commons hub, and for us to explore together how it might become a gathering spot for climbers in the future.

IN CASE IT RAINS...

...lightly, there are some overhanging climbing areas that are rain protected.

...heavily, we'll focus on skill-sharing & partying in our two event halls and envision commons hub's climbing future: sketching plans for the commons hub boulder gym.

Calling all climbers!
Gear up, show up, and let’s build this community!
